Why Am I Here – What Should I Do With My Life? – Gods Big Plan For Your Life

Why Am I Here LORD? And What Should I Do With My Life?

God is listening.

He watches.

He listens.

He cares.

He speaks.

He intervenes.

He acts with invincible power... (for you, if you will allow Him).

For over twenty six years now, despite making a complete mess of things countless times, God has stayed close to me.

He’s listened to me, sometimes when no one else would. Quite frankly, His kindness in responding to me in ways which are way beyond the natural order of things down through the years is truly astonishing, as you’ll see shortly.

I suppose that’s one aspect of what love is. Someone who will always listen to and accept you as you really are. My name David, means “beloved by God” but I’m only just beginning to realise it’s truth... because now I can feel His love every day.

Don’t get me wrong, whenever I have needed a good kick, God has given me one, but wonderfully, across all these years God has just been there. He finally helped me realise there’s a whole lot more to this life than just surviving from month to month, year after year, “holding out for heaven” when one day “everything will be alright.”

I uncovered my destiny. It took me a while, but I got there.

So can you.

Yes, God does work in mysterious ways but I’m here to tell you that although He may have hidden these mysteries to others, from today if you are willing to think and act a little differently from “the herd”, He has promised to reveal them to you.

He desires very much that you know exactly who you are, why you are here, and what you should be doing with your life.

In fact He made an unbreakable promise to you about this.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man. The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?

Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” (1 Corinthians 2 v 912 NKJV).

So it is clear that God has prepared ‘things’ for those that love Him.

Yet, despite the fact that He has kept these things hidden from most peoples hearts (v9)God says that He has ALREADY revealed them to you through His Spirit (v10). Furthermore, one of the reasons God gives His Spirit to those who love Him is so “they might know the things that have been freely given to them by God” (v12).

God goes further still by showing what He means by ‘things’...

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2v10 NKJV).

Two amazing truths thus unfold for us...

  1. He made you. YOU are His creation, His workmanship, (or special handiwork).
  2. He has “good works” ready for you to do, right now. (They’ve been ready for years).

Which means we know...

God has ALREADY shown the Holy Spirit what your special works are to be and sent Him on a mission to tell YOU what has been uniquely mapped out for your life. Both the scriptures in Corinthians and Ephesians above illustrate this clearly.

Those things, those “good works,” are waiting for you to start now.

Want to begin them?

If so you will have to get to know the Holy Spirit.

Not the noisy fake one so fondly paraded in many Churches these days, but the REAL ONE... the Spirit of the Most High God Himself. Holy, pure, beautiful, majestic and (if you geton the wrong side of Him) indeed, sometimes quite terrifying.

(He is pure love, yet His love is no pushover, as you’ll see later).

If you don’t know exactly the things that God has freely given to you yet then you need light to uncover them.

Remember, God is light (1 John 1 v 5).

In the beginning God said “Let there be light” (Genesis 1 v 3 NKJV) and the darkness engulfing the earth previously, instantly disappeared as light flooded everything.

It’s exactly the same now.

When God speaks it always has the same effect... everything lights up, and it is EASY to see.

The Bible says...

"The entrance of Your (God's) words gives light."(Psalm 119 v 130 NKJV).

So, without being irreverent, the Holy Spirit is the great “light bulb” of God. He takes whatGod wants to show you and lights it up powerfully, so you can see what is revealed very clearly.

(Very helpful, especially if you’ve been muddling along for years, not quite knowing what you should be doing, where you are going or maybe why you are even here at all). Now, imagine if someone could just “switch the light on” concerning your life, and suddenly, EVERYTHING in it all made sense?

Well, the Holy Spirit wants to do just that for you.

Again, the Apostle John says...

“God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.”(1 John 1v5 NKJV).

The Holy Spirit will flood light into your mind and spirit to show exactly why you are here, what lies in YOUR future, what works you should be doing and HOW TO DO THEM, so your life ends up being beautiful and glorifies Him in a completely natural way.

Because God has already planned for you to succeed in this way, you will not fail if you PAY ATTENTION to what He shows you and humbly start DOING what He sets before you.

But, you cannot do it by yourself. You must learn how to see ‘The Invisible Man’ if you are to get this right.

Who is this man that we can’t see?

The Holy Spirit of course.

He is a man—just invisible.

He’s NOT Jesus, because Jesus has a PHYSICAL body, which even to this day bears the scars and wounding He received when He died on the Cross in Jerusalem over 2000 years ago. As we speak, Jesus Himself is up in heaven, sitting next to God the Almighty (Hebrews12 v 2).

In fact Jesus was the one who arranged for the Holy Spirit to come to earth after He departed up to heaven so that believers would not be left to struggle through their lives down here all on their own. Jesus commanded His disciples to wait until they were “clothed with power” from the Holy Spirit, before they were to do any works at all (Luke 24 v 49).

Quick question...

Are you trying to do things, yet you don’t seem to have power?

You need the Holy Spirit.

Jesus called Him your helper or counsellor that would SHOW YOU WHAT TO DO.

However, this invisible man is JUST LIKE JESUS.

In fact He is the “Spirit of Christ” (Romans 8 v 9).

It is vital that you know He is a person...

He is not...

A force...

A mist...

A ghost...

Or any other weird thing you can dream up...

Oh and by the way—He is GOD Himself too!

If all this is starting to get a bit confusing, I empathise with you.

At the risk of getting too theological we’ve just touched one of the greatest mysteries revealed in the Bible concerning the nature of God.

The mystery of the Trinity. That’s why in Church you sometimes hear folks say...

  • God the Father.
  • God the Son.
  • God the Holy Spirit.

Let me explain...

“Er... they are all God (Father, Son and Spirit), but er, they are all uniquely themselves and kind of separate, yet they are all together as one at the same time. They are all Godand—God is 100% ONE.”

Let me say that last point again, so no one misunderstands...THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD.

Er, to be honest... it’s hard for me to explain it further really.

(To all my Muslim, Sikh and Jewish friends reading this—hang in there!) But the ApostlePaul, one of the greatest New Testament theologians of all, actually said the Trinity was “a mystery” (1 Timothy 3 v 16).

So if Paul said it’s a mystery I will leave it at that just now. All I can say is that once you really begin to know the Holy Spirit, all this theology stuff kind of takes care of itself.

You don’t need to know how electricity works when you switch the light on to experience the benefits of light. You just enjoy its power, warmth and light... yet you don’t mess with its laws  by sticking your fingers in a plug socket.

Same thing with God.

So get to know the Holy Spirit for yourself, because He is the ONLY one who has been given permission from God the Almighty to pass this hidden blueprint about why you are here on this earth and what you should be doing, along to you.

You won’t find this knowledge inside any self-help book.

You won’t get it in yoga, or meditation classes.

You won’t get it via counselling or fortune telling.

You won’t get it by navel gazing or digging around your emotions.

You won’t even get it through well meaning Christian brothers and sisters.

You have to go to the source—God Himself.

He invites you to access your own life’s blue print for yourself.

Are you up for it?

Now let’s recap for a second.

So far you know...

Why you are here—to fulfil a divinely implanted sense of purpose deep within you that God Himself specially tailored uniquely for you and no one else.

NOTE: You may feel like a “square peg in a round hole” until you follow these “whispers in your heart” which God uses to call you towards your destiny.

The Holy Spirit of God has been given the job of telling you the things that God has given to you concerning your life—these are the “good works” He has purposed for you that will reward you with true peace, fulfilment and your ultimate success.

Here’s what God wants you to know regarding what He has waiting for you...

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”(Jeremiah 29v11 NKJV).

The New International Version expands further still...

“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the LORD,“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”(Jeremiah 29 v 11 NIV).

That rounds this section up about why you are here and what you should be doing. Next we get into who you actually are, which is essential for you to understand too.
